Description
A poignant portrayal of a society bereft of moral and spiritual foundations, Manjula Padmanabhan's fifth play, Harvest, won the Onassis Award for Original Theatrical Drama in 1997. After its international staging in Greece in 1999, the play has been performed by various theatre groups around the world over the years. A deep satire, Harvest tells the story of a poor family's Faustian contract they enter into with a dubious international corporation - fabulous wealth in exchange for the organs of a member of that family. The glamorous American woman hoping to obtain the organs takes over their one-room house through an interactive video device. The play highlights the transactional nature of human relationships - even the most intimate ones.
