A sound foundation of anatomy and physiology is a must in the pharmaceutical and medical sciences. Although a large number of books are available on these subjects, the books with a pharmacy standpoint, simplicity and coordinating with health education, are very few and this was the first book published by Indian authors. This book was initially designed to provide adequate knowledge on the subjects of Human Anatomy, Physiology and Health Education for Diploma students of pharmacy colleges. With the passage of time, it was realized that this book was used more by Degree students. Hence, later the contents of this book were updated to meet the standards at First B.Pharm. recommended by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The latest edition has been thoroughly revised. Details on `Cell-cycle,? Synthesis of Proteins and Autacoids have been included in this edition, The chapter on ?Defence Systems of the body? has been completely revised with special emphasis on ?Immune systems.? Some of the important portions of the book appreciated in previous editions like diabetes mellitus, osseous system, acid-base balance, physiology of vision and hearing have been retained. Emphasis has been given to describe the nervous system in more details so that it becomes useful in understanding the mechanism of action of drugs which a student of pharmacy has to study at a later stage. A crisp information on neurotransmitters and ion channels have been provided in this chapter. All the chapters on Health Education have also been revised.
