Description

The main scripture of Buddhism is Tripitaka, which is composed of three books. One of these is the 'Vinaya Pitaka', which contains discussions on various aspects including rules of conduct, association, and atonement for Buddhists. Fa-Hien originally came to India in the late 4th century in search of the 'Vinaya Pitaka'. Because India was known as 'Buddha's Land' in China. Fa-hien, who came from China and spent the early fifth century in India, wrote his travelogue at the behest of Guru Kumarjiva. In his description, the description of several cities of India at that time and the socio-economic conditions of that time, geographical description, standard of living and even the name of the region and various aspects of contemporary India are bright. In the 19th century, this travelogue was translated into English by Samuel Beale and James Legge. 100 years ago in Bengal based on Bill and Legi's translation. That travelogue was published by Yogindranath Samaddar in a volume of his book 'Contemporary India' under the title 'Chinese Traveler Fa-Hien'.
