Description

At the beginning of the British rule, when people who were uprooted from certain hereditary occupational strata could not enter the new socio-economic strata, they became isolated from society and occupation like nomads. But Bengalis cannot live long in nomadism, a part of them choose banditry. Big gangs of robbers were formed and robbers' thanas or temples were formed in villages. Just as tigers become cannibals under special circumstances, so the people of Bengal step on the path of terrible crimes. The tyranny of the Manvantar Company after the war, the permanent settlement, and the tyranny of the zamindars beyond the limits of the tax-paying zamindars, led the Bengalis to rebel, calling them dacoits. Needless to say, the farmer did not differentiate between the rebel and the common bandit. Valmiki became the jewel of youth as a result of austerities and the widespread anarchy of Bengal drove the peaceful and innocent working people to the path of crime. According to Vinay Ghosh, 'Are robbers only robbers according to the police dictionary definition? Or something more? Raghu Bishe Bade could have become a minor hero of the revolution if he could have mixed the spirit of banditry with the political revolutionary spirit of public liberation, but there was no era of red flags, there was no era of loud revolutionary slogans, there was an era of Kali, so Kali was the symbol of rebellion and revolution. He is eternally unique, the epitome of tremendous ferocity, unique among the thirty-three million gods and goddesses. Dakatekali is the goddess of the neglected, marginalised, underprivileged and criminals, an endless source of energy for the political nationalist struggle. Whom the soldiers of the age of fire or the pilgrims of darkness worship in the dark night. She is not the Kalimata of Shastra, the loving Bhavatarini, the priestess of Shastra, a mundane Bengali goddess, born only to be worshiped by robbers, and assimilated into the general culture. And the history of the evolution of this goddess is caught between two Malats. Dakatkali, myths and history books of Bengal contain legends of countless Dakatkali temples, Kali Puja of thugs and stories of human sacrifice by dakatkali of Bengal.
